If you grind your teeth on a nightly basis, or you have a bad habit of crunching down on chunks of ice, your teeth could be at increased risk of suffering a large chip or dental fracture. If the biting surface of a tooth is damaged, the compromised occlusal structure could limit your basic oral function and cause significant pain.

Without timely treatment and repair, the minute textures in the fractured tooth enamel could accumulate sugar residue, plaque, and food particles, promoting tooth decay. If you have a tooth in this condition, the most effective restoration method is to have Dr. Rob Holdridge install a dental crown, to replace the entire tooth enamel layer.

This mode of treatment starts with numbing the tooth before removing the entire tooth enamel layer. This leaves behind an abutment made from the underlying dentin layer of the tooth. We will then create an impression of the area to serve as a guide for the dental lab technicians who will create your dental crown. At the end of the appointment, a temporary crown will be secured over the abutment to protect it.

When your dental crown is ready, we will call you to schedule a second appointment. Once we cement the dental crown onto the abutment, it will complete the dental restoration process.

If you live in Wheaton, Illinois, and one of your teeth has a chip on the biting surface, you should call 630-668-3423 to seek treatment at Rob Holdridge, DMD & Associates.
